The New York City Marathon, like most world majors marathons (with exception to the Boston Marathon) has a lottery system to earn entry into this prestigious event. Runners from around the globe throw their names in with the dream of being one of the very few runners accepted. For the upcoming 2024 NYC marathon less than 4% of lottery applicants were accepted because this race is so highly desired. (Out of 165,000 applicants, only 50,000 participants accepted.)Along with thousands of other runners I threw my name in the hat for the NYC lottery and along with tens of thousands of others I was regretfully not accepted. However, with the NYC Marathon there’s a workaround to this nearly impossible lottery system. I have received an opportunity to run virtually on behalf of a charity for the NYC Marathon in 2024 which then allows me to run the actual marathon in person in the year 2025. It is difficult to receive acceptance to this multi step, multi year program as well as I’ve previously been declined for this opportunity as well. BUT!!! This is MY year and I am grateful for the chance to make this dream come true. I will be raising money and running on the Team for Kids charity team. Team for Kids is a New York Road Runner (NYRR) group of dedicated adult runners who commit to fundraising for NYRR youth and community programs. Funds raised by Team for Kids support running-based fitness, goal-setting, and nutrition programs benefiting students in schools and communities across the United States, including New York City's five boroughs. My goal is to raise a minimum of $1,310 for this incredible charity and I am asking for your support.
