About Maastricht
Maastricht is a municipality located in the southeast of the Netherlands. It is the capital of the province of Limburg. This was historically a Belgic community that was conquered by the Romans during the Gaelic Wars. It then became a religious center, a city where weapons are stored and then an industrial city. Maastricht nowadays is a cultural city and a center for education. This municipality has rich connections to the past and is evidenced with its 1677 national heritage sites.
Maastricht is a member of the Most Ancient European Towns Network and the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion including cities like Aachen, Eupen, Hasselt, Liege and Tongeren. The municipality has more than 120,000 residents in its urban region and more than 180,000 individuals in its metropolitan region based on a census done in November 2013.
